Your Dog’s First Groom With Feral Friends: What to Expect with the Arrowbear Lake Dog Groomer

If you’re thinking about booking your dog’s first grooming appointment at Feral Friends, welcome, I’m so glad you’re here!

My goal is simple:Give your dog a calm, gentle, one-on-one grooming experience in a cozy mountain setting where they feel safe and cared for.

Whether your pup is a seasoned pro or has a history of anxiety at big box salons, this guide will walk you through exactly what to expect from the moment you book to the moment your freshly fluffed dog trots back to you.

A Calm, Cozy Grooming Experience (Right Here in Arrowbear Lake)

I currently groom out of a warm, comfortable home grooming shed salon that I’ve designed to be stress-free for dogs. It’s quiet and intentionally set up so your dog never feels overwhelmed.

There are:

  • No other dogs around

  • No loud industrial dryers

  • No cages

  • No chaos

Just one dog at a time, yours!

1. Booking Your Appointment

When you book online, you’ll see:

  • A confirmation email

  • A short intake form so I can learn about your dog

  • Options to share any anxiety triggers or special needs

This helps me tailor the entire session to your pup’s comfort level.

2. Arrowbear Lake Dog Groomer Drop-Off: A Gentle Start

When you arrive, we’ll take a minute to help your dog feel safe and curious in the new space.

I will:

  • Say hello calmly and quietly

  • Let them sniff and explore

  • Offer treats (if allowed)

  • Move at their pace

There’s no rushed handoff, your dog sets the tone.

3. Slow Introductions & Grooming Prep

Before we begin grooming, I take a few minutes to:

  • Build trust through gentle touch

  • Get them comfortable on the table

  • Check for matting, shedding, skin irritation, or sensitive spots

If your dog needs a moment to decompress or settle in, that’s totally okay. I like to leave room for breaks.

4. The Bath: Warm, Quiet, & Soothing

I use:

  • Warm water

  • Shampoo matched to your dog’s coat & skin needs

  • A handheld sprayer for quieter washing

  • Slow, reassuring movements

Many dogs actually find the warm bath surprisingly relaxing once they realize they’re in a safe space.

5. Blow Drying Without the Stress

High-velocity dryers can be scary, especially for anxious or noise-sensitive dogs, so I take a gentle, low-noise approach.

Your dog may experience:

  • Towel drying

  • Lower-intensity airflow

  • Breaks if needed

  • Positive reinforcement throughout

The goal is comfort over speed.

6. Brushing, Nails, & Coat Care

Based on your dog’s breed and coat, I’ll complete:

  • Brushing or deshedding

  • Nail trimming and buffing

  • Paw, sanitary, or light face trimming

  • Ear cleaning if requested

Every dog is different, and I never force through mats or discomfort. If something needs special attention or multiple sessions, I’ll let you know.

7. Finishing Touches & Clean Photos

Before I bring your dog out, I like to:

  • Give them a moment to relax

  • Offer praise and treats

  • Snap a cute photo if they’ll allow it

Then your freshly groomed pup is ready to head home looking (and smelling!) amazing.

8. Aftercare Notes & Personalized Recommendations

At pickup, I’ll share:

  • How your dog handled everything

  • Any areas that need monitoring

  • Coat maintenance tips

  • Recommendations for grooming frequency based on their lifestyle (especially mountain dogs who shed, hike, or play in the snow!)

My Promise to You (and Your Dog)

Every dog deserves gentle, attentive grooming, especially those who’ve had tough experiences in the past.

At Feral Friends, your dog isn’t “just another appointment.” They’re loved, respected, and cared for from start to finish.

If your dog is anxious, reactive, elderly, shy, or simply sensitive, this is the perfect environment for them.
